Iron Brewer 2013

February 5, 2013 12:00 AM

Brasseurs a la Maison is hosting its first Annual Iron Brewer Club Competition at the Tin Roof Brewery.  Over 35 club members signed up to participate and were divided into 10 teams. In the mindset of Iron Chef the rules were simple. Each team would receive a randomly drawn secret ingredient and would have a week to decide what style of beer they would brew (to give a sense of urgency).  The beer would need to be ready to serve on Feb 22nd.  The judging would be similar to Iron Chef in that the secret ingredient would need to be apparent and showcased in the final product.

Here is the list of ingredients chosen:

Cane Syrup
Louisiana Citrus
Cayenne Pepper
Peaches
Pecans
Strawberries
Sweet Potatoes
Honey
Chicory
Red Beans
Jazzman Rice

On the evening of Feb 22nd, each team will serve samples of their beer to anyone over the age of 21 who brings non-perishable food donations for the Greater Baton Rouge Area Food Bank (no money will be accepted) Each visitor will receive a vote in the people's choice champion.  In addition to the People's Choice, 4 "celebrity" judges will be present to determine a Judge's Choice who will be crowned Ultimate Iron Brewer.

Come out to support the Greater Baton Rouge Area Food Bank and enjoy some great and interesting beer.  Food trucks should be on site to provide food (not free) along with music provided by DJ Dunn of Tiger Tracks DJ Service.  Enjoy a great relatively free evening with some members of the local homebrew and beer community.

Friday Feb 22nd, 6-8pm
